2. YouTube Keyword Research

What is Keyword Research

Keyword Research is a way to discover what people are searching for on YouTube, they will also discover the number of searches for each of those keywords.

If you perform keyword research the right way you will discover which niche keywords will be options for you to make videos about.

The research process allows you to better understand what kind of questions your audience is asking on YouTube

Once you fully understand the questions they are asking and how they are feeling then you can create videos to provide solutions for these questions.

Why Keyword Research is so Important for YouTube

Creating videos is too time consuming to not be strategic as possible about what you are creating and how you are sharing it with the internet

Keyword research will make it easier for you audience to discover your videos. This means more views and more opportunities. Viewers are more likely to share your video if they got value from it or if it was entertaining.

Bottom line Keyword Research is so important to your success that’s why we are going to show you how to perform it properly to get you the best possible results.

Leverage Free YouTube Keyword Research Tools

Here are a few of the tools that I use:

VidIQ

VidIQ is the first tool you should install if you are serious about keyword research on your Youtube Channel. There is a chrome plugin that will let you explore the tags for specific videos so you can see the exact tags that they are using.

This means you can check which tags work well and which tags are not optimized properly. You can then use this information to optimize your videos to get more views for these tags

Here is how to use it

Head over to VidIQ and sign up for an account.

Log in to your account and head over to SEO.

VidIQ Login Page

Then enter a keyword into the Keyword research Tab.

VidIQ Video SEO Research

VidIQ will give you a list of Keyword Ideas. The free version will give you a limited list. If you upgrade to Pro you will get access to the full list.

TubeBuddy Tags

TubeBuddy is also a chrome extension with a free version and a paid version.

The free version gives you access to the exact tags your competitors use for their videos.

First sign up for a free account here.

Then install the chrome extension on your google chrome browser.

Then head over to YouTube and find a video that you want to check the tags for

If you can find a poorly optimized video that ranks well for a keyword, you can then use this keyword and create an amazing video that serves the audience for this keyword and is optimized like a champion.

YT Cockpit

This is one of the few keyword tools available that is designed specifically for youtube

To start enter a seed keyword

YT cockpit will give you a collection of possible keywords

The best part about this tool is that it checks the competition on youtube

And if you click on the keyword suggestion, they’ll show you a detailed breakdown of the Youtube SERP

What is this?

If you see that the first page is packed with massively successful videos, you probably want to scratch that keyword off of your list

It takes a lot of time and energy to make a video and you don’t want to create a video thats not going to get any views and not get ranked in search

This competition analysis helps you avoid your videos getting buried in a highly competitive search term.

Kparser

You can use Kparser for free, but like most tools, you’ll get a lot more out of it if you’re willing to fork out for the premium version.

Kparser gives you the ability to search specifically for YouTube terms, the free version shows you an initial ranking factor in its suggestions based on the frequency range of every word in the search term.

Detailed information like search volume and cost is only available if you subscribe, so the basic version isn’t the best for in depth analysis. But when its free you have to give a little in certain areas.

Hypersuggest

Hypersuggest also has a free version that you can use to test it out. This tool has an amazing user interface and the ability to search by specific country. The limit here is that the tool only shows you the first 10 results with the free version, but it does give you the possible search volume.

Wordtracker

Wordtracker is one of my favourite tools that I use for free. The thing that I like about Wordtracker is that they give you a free trial of the full version before you have to start paying for it. So you can test it out and see what it is like before you pay them a cent.

Wordtracker will give you the search volume, competition, and information about the number of times the keyword appears in the anchor and title.
